Natural Disaster

What's graffiti? The topic of graffiti is interesting to me. Some people feel that graffiti is just spray painting walls, while others feel its just to mark turf for gangs. But to me its an outside museum of art. It also shows how people express themselves. When I was younger I thought graffiti was bad because i never really saw a fully finished piece of graffiti. But later on I saw more and more graffiti but they were all finished thats when I began to like it. I wanted to show how outside (nature), could be represented through art with a base of outside. In this picture there is a 3-D representation of trees, a faucet with water coming out, and concrete. These are all things of nature. In the other picture there is a canvas outside with graffiti on it and trees surrounding it.

Questions

1. Can graffiti ruin some neighborhoods? Or does it fit in everywhere?
2.Do you think graffiti should be considered a criminal offense?
3. Is all graffiti bad? Why or why not?

  3. IN SOME CASES GRAFFITI CAN RUIN NEIGHBORHOODS. I TRULY THINK IT DEPENDS ON THE MATERIAL. FOR EXAMPLE, IT CAN SOMETIMES STAND OUT AND MAKE THE NEIGHBORHOOD LOOK MORE PRESENTABLE. BUT SOME PEOPLE USE IT TO THEIR ADVANTAGES AND START MAKING IT BECOME AN GANAG AFFILIATED THING.

  4. Graffiti can be used as a reflection on one's personality, opinion, and neighborhood. Graffiti that is posted for all of the community to see should reflect them as a whole. If the graffiti falls into that catergory, then it belongs there in that neighborhood. If the art can be described as more of a contradiction than a paradox or just an acturate account, than it does not belong in the community.

  5. Darrell,
I prefer that street art and graffiti should both be legalized within my neighborhoop. to tourists or just outsiders, both street art and graffiti serve as a pull factor. People may find these artworks creative and might help decorate the neighborhood. I believe that it is not fair that street artists get no punishment while graffiti artist usually have to do time in jail because they both are basically destroying property. one's artwork may be appealing to anyone therefore, both artist should be allowed to create art on the walls of public property.

  6. I think graffiti can be bad if you make it seem bad. If people are just using it to put their name out and for gang affiliations, then I would consider it as bad. The pictures shown above can make people look at graffiti in a good way. I liked the 3-D picture of trees. So it all depends on how people look at it and what message they get from it.

  7. I don't think graffti artists should be arrested fir their self-expression, but for their vandialism. If some feel the need to spray nonsense over someone else's property, they should be in jail because they would not want that done to their property. However, I do believe that there should be some places where artists can come to paint and draw wherever they want without fear of being chased by the police. It is unfair for the government to prohibit people from expressing themselves. Artists have different ways of doing it, and one way if by spraying pictures and words on a wall.
