Origami

Origami from ori meaning "folding" and kami meaning "paper". This is the traditional Japenese art of folding paper. This art can take up to 40 hours depending on the size of the piece. The folds made with the paper are usually small and it can turn into a huge sculpted piece of paper. I was interested in this because this has some relation to what we are working on in class. There is nothing specific that you have to make with origami, it has a  very wide range of sculptures that is all left up to your imagination and time.

Purpose:
The whole purpose of this is to turn a flat sheet of normal paper into a sclupture without glue.

1. Do you think origami is a waste of time or something meaningful ?
2.What is the most amount of time you think you would spend on making a origami sculpture ?
3.What type of sculpture do you think would take the most amount of time making ?

  1. I feel that origami is a very original form of art it shows creativity. It also defitnetly presents cultural values firsthand. It gives artist a way to connect worldwide, which really is a focal point of art. To answer question I feel depending size and design and creativity. But I think the people who make origami have special connections to it

  2. personally i dont thin its a waste of time becuase if you want to do it its because you like doing it and its something you want to spend all your time or your free time doing,so if you choose to do origami its because you want to not have to so therefore your not wasting time your doing something with you time .

  3. I do not think it is a waste of time at all! It looks very interesting. If you are spending a lot of time doing this, then it is not a waste because it is something that you enjoy. Therefore, it is not a "waste" of time. Origami is very unique and I think patience is the key.

  5. Origami is great. It's a great way of creating a kind of paper sculpture. I think it isn't a waste of time. It's a form of art, and art is beautiful. Plus, creating origami can take your mind of things. Origami isn't a waste of time.

  6. I believe that an origami is not a waste of time. I mean if the person who decides to create it thought that it was a waste of time then why did they do it in the first place. Like Abby said it is a form of art, and also a way to distract you. When I'm not in the mood, I mostly doodle or take a walk, creating an origami is something that I will like to try. To sum it all up, I think that origami's aren't a waste of time, they are creative, and a good way to help us create art.

  7. DARRELL- I strongly believe that origami is not a waste of time. If someone is really interested in creating an origami sculpture, then it is certainly not a waste of time. The most time I would spend on creating an origami figure would be up to an hour. If I have nothing else to do and my schedule is empty, the maximum time I would spend is an hour. It can be very meaningful to many artists, so therefore it is not a waste of time. It os just another way or form to express yourself or your thoughts through art.

  8. I think that origami is orginal but also a waste of time. I wouldn't spend time making sculptures out of origami. In the introduction, it said it could take up to 40 hours and that is just too long. If a person is willing to spend that much time on an origami sculpture, then they could but I wouldn't.

  9. I think that origami is very hard. Origami is a waste of time especially when you try so hard to do one then it comes out to be a total fail. I found out that you can make an origami out of any thing that is flexible and that people don't take more than one hour to make one. I find that very interesting. Now that I know this, I will try to make origami in under an hour. And your post has encouraged me to try it over and over until I get it right. Origami also shows expression that only you can choose to reveal.

  10. Origami is a very time consuming skill. It is very hard to master due to the many different folds needed to make a product. If you mess up even one fold the object your making will not look right and that can be very interesting. Origami is hard and the most difficult thing i have ever tried to make is a crane.

  11. the longest amount of time I would ever spend on origami is about ten minutes because anything longer than that would require more skill than I have.

  12. For some people, I think that origami is meaningful. To others, it might be a waste of time. I think it depends on the kind of person you are. I also think the most time I would spend on origami would be about 15 minutes. Anything longer than that would just make me think too hard.
